SRS Raise the Roof Foundation announces their sponsorship of the newest Service Dog for Veterans team from Canine Companions for Independence® in Texas. US Marine Corps SSgt Jose was matched with his service dog Jill, completely free of charge. Jill is expertly trained in commands that help create space in public and assist with anxiety interruption for him as well as other daily activities. Jill is now by Jose’s side each day to provide enhanced independence and confidence. Dan Tinker, President of the Raise the Roof board of directors and President and CEO of SRS Distribution, said “We are honored and proud to partner with Canine Companions for Independence as sponsors of this very special graduate team under their expanded Veterans Initiative™ for the South Central Region. We at SRS and Raise the Roof have a longstanding history with our commitment to veterans and their mental health. We recognize the value of our veterans’ military experiences, service to country and dedication to teamwork as well as the challenges that certain situations can create for them. We also understand and appreciate how the unconditional support and daily assistance from a specially trained service dog can help them. We welcome this new graduate team into the SRS family as their sponsor and are excited to see them grow together as veteran and canine partners.”
During National Hospital Week in May, we could think of no better way to honor our healthcare heroes at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Allen TX than to provide their entire staff with lunch and sweet treats. Our SRS Distribution and SRS Raise the Roof Foundation team are deeply grateful to all of our healthcare providers for the help, healing and hope they bring to patients, families and communities. Thank You from the bottom of our hearts!
The SRS Distribution family of companies has always been special. Now, more than ever, our team members have stepped up in the most challenging of circumstances to continue serving and meeting the needs of their customers and communities. In addition to being part of the fabric of essential businesses, the SRS family is also part of the invaluable network of volunteers that provide support to nonprofits and the individuals they serve every day. This week is National Volunteer Week, so we want to take this opportunity to thank our SRS heroes not only for the work they do so well at our branches and corporate office, but also to honor them for their gifts of time, treasures and talents they invest in the lives of others. By supporting Raise the Roof Foundation and other worthy nonprofits through volunteering and donating, SRS employees assist in meeting critical needs of families, neighborhoods and individuals across our country. SRS Raise the Roof Foundation was extremely honored to feature George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States, as the special keynote speaker at our annual IRE benefit concert in February. Our Raise the Roof Foundation has been a proud partner of the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Military Service Initiative for several years. At a reception preceding the concert, Dan Tinker, board president of SRS Raise the Roof Foundation and SRS Distribution president and CEO, along with Ron Ross, board chair of both SRS Distribution and SRS Raise the Roof Foundation, presented a check to President Bush for $25,000. This gift extends our commitment to the Bush Center Military Service Initiative to invest in and improve the lives of our veterans and help them make successful transitions to civilian life with a focus on cultivating leaders, overcoming the invisible wounds of war, and gaining meaningful employment.
Thanks to our customers, vendors, friends, team members and supporters for a fabulous night in Big D at our IRE benefit concert! Your incredible generosity, a great performance by Journey and outstanding keynote by our very special guest, former President George W. Bush, really did help Raise the Roof on February 5th to Raise Money, Have Fun and Give Back! Over $500,000 was donated to support our mission!
SRS Corporate team members joined hands and hearts with SRS Raise the Roof Foundation in the spirit of giving this holiday season to help three Collin County nonprofit partners. Multiple corporate departments collected 250 pounds of food in November to donate to the Canned Fruit Drive for the Kids benefiting the Community Food Pantry of McKinney. Following Thanksgiving and into early December, individual employees and departments made the holidays brighter for children on the CASA of Collin County Angel Tree by fulfilling the wish lists of 50 children ranging in age from infants to teens. Our corporate team continued to give generously to make holiday magic come true for children served by the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County with donations of toys and gift cards for their annual Holiday Shop. Employees also gave their time to volunteer to set up the Holiday Shop for Santa and his elves! At SRS, we love to Give Back! to our community during the holidays and all through the year!

Our Midwest Roofing Supply branch in Wichita, Kansas held their inaugural Raise the Roof Ride and Raffle a few weeks ago to support SRS Raise the Roof Foundation and charity partner 22Kill. Riders put on about 100 miles and had a great lunch at Shindigs in Winfield KS. Raffle tickets were sold to customers and staff in the days following the ride to win coveted 22Kill branded merchandise. Branch Manager Mike Torgerson and his team raised $500 and are excited about building on this year's event to make next year's benefit ride grow and raise more money. Thanks to our Wichita team for this event!
This past Memorial Day weekend, over two dozen employees and family members representing SRS Distribution and our Raise the Roof Foundation attended the Dallas Carry The Load opening ceremony and Memorial March on behalf of the 22Kill Tribe. Team SRS was honored, humbled and proud to participate in this event to help Carry The Load in their mission in bringing all Americans together to honor our nation's heroes every day.
CASA of Collin County promotes and protects the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to severe abuse or neglect. CASA trains volunteer advocates to improve these children's quality of life and serve as the children's voice within the court system to ensure that they are placed in a safe, permanent and loving home. In 2018, CASA (Courts Appointed Special Advocates) served almost 600 children. CASA's ultimate goal is to decrease the amount of time a child spends in foster care, prevent re-abuse by the system designed to protect them and most importantly, aim to break the cycle of abuse. SRS Raise the Roof Foundation is proud to support CASA of Collin County not only financially but through our SRS employee volunteerism commitment as well.
Lifting spirits of wounded warriors during periods of hospitalization or rehabilitation by uniting them with their family members is the mission of partner agency Luke's Wings. Families are flown free of charge to join their veterans so they can help with the physical and emotional healing needed to assist in their recovery. They also provide flights to families of veterans on hospice care to bring them together during that painful, yet precious time. On April 27th, SRS Raise the Roof Foundation is again honored to be part of Luke's Wings annual Heroes Gala in Washington DC and meet the families of these wounded warriors we serve. Because of the generosity of our donors, we will be able to help Luke's Wings provide more than 700 free flights again this year to reunite veterans and their families.
In the wake of recent tornadoes and massive flooding across several parts of the country, the devastating effects of natural disasters and beginning of the spring storm season are once again at the forefront of the daily news. Minuteman Disaster Response seeks to address and assist disaster relief efforts, especially for more rural communities in the South Central U.S.. Minuteman offers well-trained, well-equipped teams to support every phase of disaster relief and recover, including search and rescue, emergency medical operations and communications, disaster scene management and debris cleanup. In 2018, Minuteman provided the equivalent of 438 days to assist over 6500 individuals in four locations with disaster support services. SRS Raise the Roof Foundation is proud to partner with Minuteman Disaster Response and honored to serve as the Incident Command sponsor for their 2019 Lamplighter Gala on March 30th.
This Memorial Day, SRS Raise the Roof Foundation along with our SRS Distribution family and friends are honored to support veteran and first responder programs through the Carry The Load Dallas Memorial March. Funds raised through Carry the Load go directly to veteran service organizations that provide healing services for the mind, body and soul of our warriors. As proud partners of the 22Kill Tribe, this year SRS and Raise the Roof Foundation will be joining the 22Kill Carry the Load Team as our way of creating the largest possible financial impact to ensure and sustain their programs.
SRS Raise the Roof Foundation was honored to be the entertainment sponsor and support local charity partner The Samaritan Inn at their gala on February 16, 2019. The Samaritan Inn offers hope to the homeless and a pathway that helps willing people gain dignity and independence to transition out of homelessness. The Samaritan Inn is more than just a place to spend the night. Their comprehensive program teaches self-sufficiency and life skills to meet the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Any night, approximately 160 people sleep at the Inn, of which 1 out of 3 are children. In 2018, the Inn served 766 residents, including almost 200 children. In our mission to support families and children in crisis, the Raise the Roof and SRS team not only contributes to the Inn but hosts an annual volunteer donation drive for household goods and other needs. We are proud to help raise awareness and support the important work of The Samaritan Inn.
We cannot say THANK YOU! enough to everyone who came out to support the SRS Raise the Roof Foundation at this year's charity concert. A great time was had by all at the Wildhorse Saloon on February 12th during the International Roofing Expo in Nashville. This was our largest concert yet, raising over $175,000 to support our mission to help veterans and military families! Special thanks to Jacob Schick of charity partner 22Kill for sharing his incredible story and how his organization is working to address veteran suicide and related issues. Jake's moving testimony brought the crowd to their feet, and featured artists Leith Lolftin, Turnpike Troubadours and Lee Brice brought the house down. We are deeply grateful to all of our generous customers, suppliers and other friends who helped record support for 22Kill and our other worthy causes!
