We Stand with Ukraine

Because of the extraordinary generosity of our donors, a total of $50,000 has been raised for We Stand With Ukraine, One Family One Fight. These funds will be donated to UNICEF USA for Nova Ukraine to assist the millions of Ukrainian refugees who had to flee their homes, leaving most of their belongings behind when war forced them out of their homeland. These gifts will provide them food, shelter, clothing and other much needed essentials as they face the daunting challenge of starting over in a new country. On behalf of SRS Raise the Roof Foundation and Heritage Cares, we are deeply grateful to our wonderful supporters for their compassion and shared commitment to help these desperate global neighbors in need. Thank you to all who contributed!

Carry the Load for One Tribe Foundation

Our SRS Distribution team joined Carry the Load at the Memorial May opening ceremony on May 29, 2022 in Dallas Reverchon Park to support One Tribe Foundation. We were honored to pay tribute to our nation’s fallen heroes and recognize our veteran team members from SRS including those who participated in Carry the Load relays in Michigan and Pittsburgh as well as Dallas. #SRSDeliversSupport #CarrytheLoad

Helping Habitat in Maryland

Our October Community Service Spotlight is on our Superior Distribution team in Annapolis MD. When Habitat for Humanity told us about the widow of a veteran in Rock Hall MD who was in need of a roof, regional manager Brian Burg and branch manager Chris Zenzen quickly coordinated efforts to meet with the local Tuckahoe Habitat affiliate and Travis Wells of Wells Home Improvements about donating roofing materials for the Yerkie family’s home. The roof was installed by the Wells team shortly thereafter. Chris Zenzen said, “Annapolis Superior as well as Travis are pleased to help this veteran family in need.” This is our eighth completed veteran roof donation over the past year through our Habitat partnership with four more projects in progress. Our SRS family and Raise the Roof Foundation are honored to partner with Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build on projects like this across the country.

September is National Assistance Dog Month

September is National Assistance Dog month. Now through the end of September, SRS and our Raise the Roof Foundation are proud to support some of our favorite canines who help veterans and others with disabilities. Since 1975, Canine Companions has provided over 5000 highly trained service dogs to enhance the lives of people with disabilities, at no charge to the recipient. Our sponsored puppy Roofus is now on his journey to become a new service dog. Your support can help train puppies like Roofus and place more exceptional dogs with veterans, children and other adults with disabilities to increase their independence and quality of life. To help, visit SRS Raise the Roof Foundation Inc - Canine Companions Point of Service Partnership.

Suncoast Serves a Veteran

Community generosity was certainly evident when two roofing businesses joined forces with Habitat Hillsborough last month to help Andre J, an Army veteran and Tampa homeowner get a new roof. SRS Suncoast Roofers Supply branch in Tampa donated the roofing materials. “Working with Habitat on this project to provide a roof for a veteran was an honor and I’m glad SRS was in a position to help such a wonderful cause,” said Zack Grossman of Suncoast. “Also, we would like to thank our partner, American Roofing and Sheet Metal for assisting as well. We love the opportunity to give back and look forward to more projects in the future.” Andre, an Army staff sergeant who served 10 years in Germany and Korea, becoming a combat engineer while in the Korean DMZ, was overwhelmed by this generosity. “I am truly, truly blessed. I thank Habitat and these businesses for everything that you have done.” Nitza Rivera, who directs the Habitat Hillsborough Veterans Build program and is herself a retired Army Master Sergeant, told SRS, “I can't thank you enough. We could not do what we do without your support.” SRS Distribution and our Suncoast Roofers Supply team are humbled by and grateful for this opportunity to give back to a veteran in need.

Women Take Action

As Mother’s Day approaches, we shine our spotlight on Maria Alcala and Roofline Supply in Burbank. When fire destroyed Alexandria House, a transitional residence in Los Angeles for women and their children moving out of emergency shelters, Maria mobilized her local NWiR Council, suppliers and her Roofline team to replace the roof. They worked diligently to source donated materials and labor. Maria also helped launch a pilot SRS Latino Forum fundraiser along with Julissa Chavez, Jacqueline Medina, Melida Flores and other SRS team members to secure matching funds from Raise the Roof. The new roof was completed last month. Now the mothers and children served by Alexandria House are safe again after being able to move back in. SRS is proud to have compassionate people of action like Maria and her teammates serve our communities! Watch more of the story here:

A Superior Response

When SRS received an urgent request to help a veteran with a deteriorating roof in Portsmouth VA, our Superior Distribution branch in Norfolk immediately answered the call. Working together with Habitat for Humanity South Hampton Roads and the local VFW, our team donated materials for a new and safe, strong roof for Danja M., US Army 10-year veteran SSGT who served in Korea and Germany. Danja is a disabled veteran who also provides assistance for two adult children, one who is paralyzed from and auto accident as a youth. Mike Pease and our Norfolk branch are proud to be among the SRS team that helps veterans like Danja and others in need. For the full story, click below.

Salute to Women Helping Habitat

This March, we pay tribute to women and their important role in our world. As part of this recognition, we celebrate our partnership with Habitat for Humanity and their affiliate in Gwinnett GA near Atlanta. We recently donated the roof for a new home they built for Tatiana Anderson, a former Army specialist, who served in South Korea on active duty and then in the Army Reserve. Amber Hayes of our Superior Distribution branch in Conyers GA helped coordinate the donated materials for Tatiana’s new roof. Over 25 women helped with this Habitat home including Erica Dodge, the national Habitat Veterans Build manager, Gwinnett Habitat program director Jen Welch and Christina Moore, Gwinnett volunteer coordinator along with dozens of crew leaders, construction and hospitality volunteers who contributed 265 volunteer hours. Tatiana says she is happy to have a strong and stable roof over her head! SRS and Raise the Roof salute the women who made this possible and Give Back to provide veterans like Tatiana and others a decent place to live.

Serving a WWII Veteran

SAN ANTONIO - Work has begun to restore the home of 94-year-old Alfred Guerra, who earned the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart during World War II while fighting in the Pacific. Tony Roman, a retired veteran himself, said offers to help came in soon after he shared that Guerra’s home had fallen into disrepair but became stalled due to the pandemic. Broken Warriors Angels, a grassroots nonprofit organization that assists homeless and disabled veterans, also learned of Guerra’s situation and got involved. “It’s veterans helping veterans.” said Fred Alvarado, the group’s CEO. Word of the project reached SRS Raise the Roof Foundation, who reached out to SRS leadership and their Southern Shingles branch in south San Antonio. They wholeheartedly agreed to help put the new roof on Guerra’s home. Tim Lynch, branch manager, said when he first met Guerra, he was out in his yard raking leaves. He said he felt compassion for the war hero. Southern Shingles and SRS TopShield not only provided the roofing products, SRS regional leadership also funded the crew to put on the roof, which was completed last week. Guerra said if there ever was a dream come true, restoring his home was it. “I will never forget what you did for me.” he stated. Lynch said, on behalf of SRS Distribution and Raise the Roof Foundation, “It’s a blessing to be able to help Mr. Guerra.” Read the full story here.

Helping Vets Through Habitat

Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity continues as we completed our second roof donation through their Veterans Build program. This one is located in our Northeast region near Buffalo NY for Vietnam era Army veteran, Clifford Lincoln. Our B&L Supply Buffalo branch team donated products for the Lincoln’s roof. Barry Weiss of Habitat said “This whole experience could not have been better. We were able to reduce the cost for the family, which makes it less burdensome for them. In addition, we were able to reduce our own costs due to the donated materials, so the money we saved can go to serving another family.” Additional roof donations for Habitat Veterans Build are underway in California, Georgia and Florida. As we Give Back with these contributions, we support our veterans and help Habitat build a world where everyone has a decent place to live, an especially important mission in times like these.

Supporting Superheroes

There is no doubt healthcare workers are truly superheroes! SRS Distribution and Raise the Roof were honored to provide a bit of holiday cheer to 255 local healthcare heroes at Texas Health Presbyterian in Allen TX with lunches and special treats right before Christmas. In one of the most grueling months they have encountered during this exhausting pandemic year, we want them to know how very grateful we are for each of them and how deeply we appreciate their commitment to provide healing and compassionate care to patients and families in our community. To all healthcare superheroes across the country, we offer our heartfelt THANK YOU!

An Attitude of Gratitude

In perhaps the most challenging year many of us have ever faced, we have an even deeper attitude of gratitude for our SRS Raise the Roof Foundation friends during this season of thankfulness. Please enjoy this special message from us to you!

SRS & Habitat for Humanity Partnership

We are excited to announce a wonderful partnership between Habitat for Humanity and SRS Distribution. Beginning this year and through 2021, SRS will donate one roof per region, primarily for Veteran homes needing a new roof or repairs. Roof and other product donations will be coordinated between our local branches and the Habitat affiliate in each recipient’s community. SRS TopShield, working with our partner Lomanco, is contributing ventilation products for our Habitat veteran roofs. Additionally, SRS Raise the Roof Foundation has made a significant financial donation through this new partnership.

Our first roof under the new program was recently completed in Colorado Springs for Larry, an Army veteran who served from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War era, and his wife. SRS’s local branch American Roofing Supply donated the roofing materials to help make their home safe and secure. Greg Kovach, director of operations for Habitat’s Pikes Peak affiliate said, “The process to obtain the materials went really well. The gents we worked with at American Roofing Supply were super helpful, the materials were of high quality, the communication was excellent, the delivery occurred on the day requested and they placed the shingles on the roof for us which is really helpful for us old guys. Thanks for coordinating this program!”

More veteran roof donations are underway, including locations in southern California, near Atlanta GA and Buffalo NY. Habitat selects most of the veteran recipients through their national veteran engagement program but will consider referrals for veterans in need. Nominees must complete an application and meet Habitat qualifications for consideration. Habitat must also have a local affiliate in the nominee’s area to coordinate the project. To learn more about the Habitat Veteran Build program, visit https://www.habitat.org/volunteer/near-you/veterans-build. We also plan to involve interested SRS team members as volunteers for Habitat builds across the country when it is safe to do so. When we Give Back through these contributions, we help Habitat build a world where everyone has a decent place to live, a crucial need now more than ever before.

Helping the Hungry

Food insecurity is a real concern for many families, especially in 2020. The Community Food Pantry of McKinney is a nonprofit outreach program that addresses this critical problem by providing food to families who are in crisis. SRS and SRS Raise the Roof Foundation are proud to partner with this agency whose goal is ensuring no one goes to bed hungry. Our recent Canned Fruit for the Children drive resulted in 326 pounds of fruit donated to help feed our community!

Thank You for Giving Back!

Thank you to everyone who participated in and donated to North Texas Giving Day! Because of your generosity, $38,273 was raised for SRS Raise the Roof Foundation to help more veterans and their families, disaster relief efforts and community assistance for children and families in crisis. A total of over $58,000,000 was donated to North Texas Giving Day this year. We are deeply grateful to all who chose to Give Back this year. You truly made it a September to remember!

Holiday Helping Hands a Huge Success

SRS Corporate team members joined hands and hearts with SRS Raise the Roof Foundation in the spirit of giving this holiday season to help three Collin County nonprofit partners. Multiple corporate departments collected 250 pounds of food in November to donate to the Canned Fruit Drive for the Kids benefiting the Community Food Pantry of McKinney. Following Thanksgiving and into early December, individual employees and departments made the holidays brighter for children on the CASA of Collin County Angel Tree by fulfilling the wish lists of 50 children ranging in age from infants to teens. Our corporate team continued to give generously to make holiday magic come true for children served by the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County with donations of toys and gift cards for their annual Holiday Shop. Employees also gave their time to volunteer to set up the Holiday Shop for Santa and his elves! At SRS, we love to Give Back! to our community during the holidays and all through the year!

CASA of Collin County

CASA of Collin County promotes and protects the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to severe abuse or neglect. CASA trains volunteer advocates to improve these children's quality of life and serve as the children's voice within the court system to ensure that they are placed in a safe, permanent and loving home. In 2018, CASA (Courts Appointed Special Advocates) served almost 600 children. CASA's ultimate goal is to decrease the amount of time a child spends in foster care, prevent re-abuse by the system designed to protect them and most importantly, aim to break the cycle of abuse. SRS Raise the Roof Foundation is proud to support CASA of Collin County not only financially but through our SRS employee volunteerism commitment as well.

Luke's Wings Heroes Gala 2019

Lifting spirits of wounded warriors during periods of hospitalization or rehabilitation by uniting them with their family members is the mission of partner agency Luke's Wings. Families are flown free of charge to join their veterans so they can help with the physical and emotional healing needed to assist in their recovery. They also provide flights to families of veterans on hospice care to bring them together during that painful, yet precious time. On April 27th, SRS Raise the Roof Foundation is again honored to be part of Luke's Wings annual Heroes Gala in Washington DC and meet the families of these wounded warriors we serve. Because of the generosity of our donors, we will be able to help Luke's Wings provide more than 700 free flights again this year to reunite veterans and their families.

Samaritan Inn Gala 2019

SRS Raise the Roof Foundation was honored to be the entertainment sponsor and support local charity partner The Samaritan Inn at their gala on February 16, 2019. The Samaritan Inn offers hope to the homeless and a pathway that helps willing people gain dignity and independence to transition out of homelessness. The Samaritan Inn is more than just a place to spend the night. Their comprehensive program teaches self-sufficiency and life skills to meet the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Any night, approximately 160 people sleep at the Inn, of which 1 out of 3 are children. In 2018, the Inn served 766 residents, including almost 200 children. We are proud to help raise awareness and support the important work of The Samaritan Inn.

IRE 2019

We cannot say THANK YOU! enough to everyone who came out to support the SRS Raise the Roof Foundation at this year's charity concert. A great time was had by all at the Wildhorse Saloon on February 12th during the International Roofing Expo in Nashville. This was our largest concert yet, raising over $175,000 to support our mission to help veterans and military families! Special thanks to Jacob Schick of charity partner 22Kill for sharing his incredible story and how his organization is working to address veteran suicide and related issues. Jake's moving testimony brought the crowd to their feet, and featured artists Leith Lolftin, Turnpike Troubadours and Lee Brice brought the house down. We are deeply grateful to all of our generous customers, suppliers and other friends who helped record support for 22Kill and our other worthy causes!
